How to Use Aromatic Oils In most cases Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils can be interchangeable BATHS Add 5 to 10 drops of aromatic oil to the bathtub or spa just after the warm water is drawn right before getting in. Gently stir in a figure 8 motion to fully disperse the oil and enjoy a relaxing 15 minute soak while you inhale the vapor. Be sure to read the safety data for the essential oils you choose to use. INHALATION You can also add 4 to 8 drops of your favorite essential oil to the water of your humidifier. The fastest and simplest way to use aromatic oils is to breathe in their fragrance through simple inhalation. Start with 2 to 3 drops of aromatic oil applied to a handkerchief, tissue or pillow case. Hold under your nose and breathe. When trying an oil for the first time, use only one drop to ensure that you do not have a sensitivity or reaction to the oil. COMPRESSES Add 8 to 10 drops of an essential oil to a bowl of 8 ozs. of hot or cold water. Submerse a cloth in the water, wring it out and place it on the area needing healing. Hot compresses are useful for muscular pain and cramp relief and cold compresses are useful for swelling or headache. AIR FRESHENERS Create effective, all-natural fresheners to enhance moods or freshen the air at home, work or in your car. Add 25-30 drops of an aromatic oil to 2 ounces of distilled water in an atomizer spray bottle. Shake well before each use, spraying into the air to mask unpleasant odors and introduce pleasant, enjoyable and healthy aromas. As an air-freshener spray into the air and towards carpets and curtains. Do not spray onto velvet or silk and avoid spraying directly onto wood. POTPOURRI Add 10 to 20 drops of an aromatic oil to a potpourri that has lost its scent or create your own potpourri by adding 20 to 30 drops of an aromatic oil to dried flowers and other botanicals. Mix together in an airtight container and store for several days to allow the potpourri material to absorb the aromatic oils. Stir occasionally to keep from molding. Fill a bowl or basket with the finished potpourri and let the scent take over your room! Add a few drops of oil the next time you are burning potpourri in your potpourri pot. Add a few drops aromatic oil to a pan of water and simmer on stove or in a potpourri pot. VACUUM USES Add a few drops to your vacuum bag. Add 10 drops of aromatic oil to a box of cornstarch or baking soda, mix very well, let set for a day or two and then sprinkle over the carpets on your home. Let set for an hour or more, then vacuum.
Add a few drops of Lemon or Tea Tree to your household cleaner or to your garbage cans before putting in a new liner. Clean your fridge with a one-drop of orange, mandarin, mint, lavender or lemon oil added to the final rinse water.Add a few drops of oil on a tissue for placement in your drawers. The refreshing qualities of Citrus, Peppermint help eliminate food and cooking odors in the kitchen.
HOME OFFICE The mental stimulants of Rosemary and Grapefruit are great for your home study or office. Rosemary promotes alertness and stimulates memory. Inhale occasionally during long car trips and while reading or studying. LAUNDRY USES Add 2 to 3 drops of an aromatic oil to your rinse water the next time you do laundry. OR Add 5 drops aromatic oil to 1/4 cup fabric softener or water and place in the center cup of the washer. Add a few drops of aromatic oil to water in a spray bottle to freshen linen or spray on garments before ironing. For good smelling towels, sheets, clothes, etc. place a few drops of your favorite aromatic oil onto a small piece of terry cloth and toss into the clothes dryer while drying. OTHER HOUSEHOLD USES Each time the toilet paper roll is changed, put a drop or two on the cardboard tube. Shoes can be freshened by either dropping a few drops of Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil directly into the shoes or by placing a cotton ball dabbed with a few drops into the shoes. Put a couple of drops of essential oil or your favorite fragrance oil on Neck pillows, padded and decorative hangers. Infuse bookmarks and stationery with aromatic oils. Place drops of oil on paper and put them in a plastic bag. Seal it and leave overnight to infuse the aroma. Send only good news in perfumed letters.
